DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVES OF THE UNIVERSITY

Preceding the tenth anniversary the Academic Council of Mkhitar Gosh University accepted the strategy of University developing program, where the extension of branches, further development of distance learning system, as well as adding new practical professions were included among the main directions.
Establishment of the new branches is one of the most important and fundamental issues of the University enlargement. Nowadays, good Universities are located in the cities, while in regions on the contrary there is a demand of modern professions. That's why the University has been approached many times recently by regional non-state universities with proposals to enter into its structure as a branch. Thus the extension of branches will be implemented not only by opening new branches, but by incorporating of existing regional universities as well.
The distance learning is generally of much importance today, so the University couldn't stay aside from this contemporary method of teaching. But the University didn't want to act like some other universities, which formed this kind of teaching activity only by renaming the correspondence courses without changing the educational procedure in quality. This kind of treatment is not acceptable. The idea of distance learning is related with information technologies, that's why substantial ideological and financial investments must be done for its development obtaining modern equipment.
The model of territorial and sequential education is the corner stone of the University development strategy. All the branches in the University structure - the branches in Yerevan and Vanadzor, the Medical Institute "Amirdovlate Amasiatsy" with its basic college, police college, elite school, preparatory, prepared their programs of strategic development which have formed the complete strategic program of the University development. Studying the demand for the contemporary higher educational professions in Armenia, the University Academic Council has concluded that it is necessary to start teaching such professions as: Public Relations (PR), Political Sciences and International Relations. The inclusion of these professions will give the opportunity to include the whole spectrum of humanitarian education. Structurally these professions are envisaged to locate in Political and PR Technology Faculty. Together with our university teaching staff, the leading professors from the state universities will work. This policy will keep the educational quality on a high level and allow in the future preparation of own graduates - specialists in these spheres. Generally the university has the following goals.

     √ To incorporate European educational technologies, to improve the teaching of foreign languages, to introduce new literature and CDs, to introduce applied knowledge, to retrain the teaching staff and on competitive basis achieve the high quality of education.
     √ To strengthen cooperation with public schools, to assist them with guidance and manuals, to retrain specialists and to assist in reform process.
     √ To improve the educational process in the basic school-gymnasium, to open new direction flow-classes and to bring the percentage of the first-year students entering the University from the school-gymnasium up to about 60%.
     √ To improve the publishing quality of text books in native language and to achieve a satisfactory state in professional subjects.
     √ To assign preparation of guidance and manuals to Departments basic work.
     √ To deepen educational and research cooperation with other Universities within the Republic and outside of it. To invite international conferences, to improve the quality of the conferences hold in the University.
     √ To work on preparation of young research specialists.
     √ To sign an Agreement with Moscow State Pedagogical University on accepting excellent graduates of the University to their post-graduate school in order to replenish the teaching staff of the University with young specialists.

State licence without time limits

The University students get the proper education in accordance with the state educational standards, for which the University has been awarded the highest status of RA The graduates of the University get State Accreditation STATE DIPLOMA OF RA The University implements bachelor's and master's degrees educational programs on the following qualified specialties:

1. 0211 – jurisprudence Specializations: Public law, Criminal Law, Civil Law - as a Bachelor of Law.

2. 0619 – Customs As a Bachelor of Customs.

3. 0611 – Management Specializations Business Management, Strategic Management, Bank and Finance Management, Investments Management, Management of Tourism - as a Bachelor of Management.

4. 0233 - Foreign languages (English, German, French, Spanish - as a Bachelor of Philology and Pedagogy)

5. 0312 – Methods and Pedagogy of Elementary Education As a Bachelor of Pedagogy. The study period at Magistracy for the Bachelor's degree holders is two years and for the specialists - diploma holders it is one year.

6. 053000 – Armenian Language and Literature As a Bachelor of Pedagogy. The study period at Magistracy for the Bachelor's degree holders is for years.

7. 080600 – Book-Keeping and Accounting As a Bachelor of Pedagogy. The study period at Magistracy for the Bachelor's degree holders is for years.

8. 080500 – Finance and Credit As a Bachelor of Pedagogy. The study period at Magistracy for the Bachelor's degree holders is for years.

12. 030600 – Journalism As a Bachelor of Pedagogy. The study period at Magistracy for the Bachelor's degree holders is for years.

13. 030700 – International relations As a Bachelor of Pedagogy. The study period at Magistracy for the Bachelor's degree holders is for years.

The University was named in honor of Mkhitar Gosh, a famous lawyer of the11st century, author of Armenian Code of laws, published in 1184, also implements the following supplementary educational programs:

The general aims of the University
     ¤ To assist in establishment in Armenia of a new higher educational system meeting European standards.
     ¤ To provide local institutions and businesses with highly qualified specialists.
     ¤ To develop and implement continuous education startegy.

The partners of the University are:

1. The Moscow State Pedagogical University. The branch of the Moscow State Pedagogical University was opened in 1998 on the basis of Mkhitar Gosh University in accordance with contracts between Ministries of Education and Science of RF and RA.

2. The branch of the Medical Institute will be founded in India.

3. There is a cooperation with the Austrian University of Kremskgy in the specialty of Tourism Management.

4. Studies of business-management programs headed by the Greece University of Pereysky.

5. The implementation of human recourses management educational programs and the mutual recognition of diplomas with the Hungarian University of Pezensky.

6. The St.Petersburg's - management in civil aviation.

7. The Moscow State University of Art and Culture

1. The University is a member of UNESCO from 2005
2. The University was conferred on the Sokrat mark "European Quality" by the informational-analystical center of European Assembly on November 2007.
3. The University became an equal member of The Italian scientific-commercial concern "Coses" which is a member of European Community from 7 November 2007.

MEDICAL INSTITUTE "AMIRDOVLAT AMASIATSI"
On the basis of the University medical professions the Medical Institute and College have been founded named after Armenian famous physiologist Amirdovlat Amaciatsy. In 2003 and 2004 from the state Ministry of Health of RA were received licences N0 KXX000003 and KXX000024 without time limits for the following professions of higher and secondary specialized (college) education.

The Medical Institute cooperates with the Medical Institute of Samara in RF, in a result our graduates receive the state Diploma of RF too. It has got its own educational and medical bases. The Medical Institute has got teachers invited from abroad.

SCHOOL-GYMNASIUM "MKHITAR GOSH" AND PREPARATORY SCHOOL "GITUNIK"
The University has got a school and a gymnasium, with no more than 15 pupils in each group. The University instructors teach in the gymnasium too and its leavers enter the University and other licensed institutions without taking entrance examinations. There is "Gitunik" preparatory school attached to the gymnasium, where children receive adequate pre -school education. The University and the gymnasium have foreign students who, after having finished the preparatory university courses, are taught in Russian and English. Today the Centre has got about 800 students and pupils.

The University has its own buildings and bases in Yerevan and in Vanadzor.
All conditions for adequate study and rest have been created for the students.

The University provides students with higher education according to the International standards ensuring all innovations and reforms applicable to education sphere. At the same time it is the best traditions former at the educational system, hence it makes the progress leaning back on achievements already gained. The University is proud of graduating students who are hired on different positions and keep high the University's rating. They succeed and get jobs in State and private organizations. On site training for graduating students is organized in the judicial and financial departments of RA government. The University library provides the students with the necessary literature and publications. The Library collection is regularly renewed with the recent literature and textbooks, as well as with the university publications and collected lecture Handbooks. The language laboratories of the University promote the foreign language teaching efficiency. The collection of video and audiotapes gives the possibility to hold teaching of foreign languages at the practical level.

Preparation Courses
Anyone, having secondary or secondary-special education, as well as school graduating students, can attend Preparation Courses. They have to present either school leaving (original of the document) or school attending certificate and 6 photos 6x4sm. The attendants of Preparation Courses can apply to enter other Institutions of Higher Education if they wish. Those, who demonstrate good results at final exams of the Preparation Courses, are given an opportunity to enter the University hors concours.

Post-graduate Studentship
The undergraduates, who wish to continue their education and to apply to the post-graduate should have Master's or an equal degree. The students with Master's degree and mental higher abilities enter the Post-graduate studentship without taking the entrance exams.

ACCEPTANCE
The applicant should be a graduate of a secondary school and meet the requirements of entrance examination confirmed by each faculty. The estimation is accomplished as per the former criteria: 0-2 (bad), 3-5 (satisfactory, good, excellent). (The University will soon accept international estimation system).
In line with the faculty, the examinations are taken for the following subjects: Armenian language (dictation), Armenian literature (interview), mathematics (oral or interview).
During examinations the preference is granted to those students who get high marks (good, excellent), students who fail will have to pass exams for the second time on individual basis.
Local and foreign applicants can apply to achieve Bachelor and Master of Art degrees as well as to pass 5 year program (equivalent to MA). They can also apply for post-graduate course.
The appliation package for the first year course includes application, addressed to the Rector of the University, secondary school graduation certificate (original), secondary professional or higher education Diploma (copy with Notary verification), 6 photos (coloured, 3x4 sm), passport.

The fees are differentiated based on social groups.
